Delhi Police Detains Najeeb's Mother While She Was Addressing the Media

The 52-year-old begged the police to bring her son back while being dragged to the police vehicle.
Najeeb Ahmad Case

After the Delhi High Court rebuked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for filing a "sketchy" progress report in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Najeeb Ahmad' mysterious disappearance case, the Delhi Police on Monday detained his mother Fatima Nafees along with relatives and friends when they were addressing the media outside the court.

Fatima Nafees has been taken to Tilak Marg police station, while others have been brought at Bara Khamba police station.

"It has been one year since my son went missing. I am running from pillar to post to know his whereabouts. But the unfazed investigators are not serious in the probe. Even the court today acknowledged the fact," she told the battery of journalists waiting outside the court premise.

She reiterated, "I just want my son back. I have not slept properly for the past one year. Now, I am broken weak and tired. I have lost faith in the entire system."

While the 52-year-old ailing mother was begging with tears in her eyes, "...please bring back my Najeeb safe and secure. I will take him back home and withdraw all cases", she was whisked away by the cops, dragged and made to sit in the police vehicle.

Earlier in the day, the court, which is hearing the habeas corpus petition filed by the moth, came down heavily on the lawyers representing the CBI.

"In a case that is being followed by the fact that there was nothing in the status report shows the lack of seriousness of the case," observed a bench of Justice GS Sistani and Justice Chandrashekhar.

The judges further rebuked the agency for submitting the "sketchy" report.
