Launching a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Prakash Ambedkar, National President of Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh on Sunday said that the silence of Modi is motivating the extremists and vigilante groups to lynch the people. Addressing a mammoth gathering at Maha Panchayat of Dalits, Tribals and Alpsankhyak Daman Pratirodh Andolan in Jaipur, Ambedkar said that government is targeting Dalits and Muslims by labeling them as Naxals and terrorists.

Ambedkar, a two-term MP from Maharashtra, called for a broader alliance of Dalits, Tribals and minorities to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party in the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls in 2019. “The strategic silence of Modi is motivating the extremist mob to lynch people. They are taking country towards mobocracy," The Times of India quoted Ambedkar as saying.

Taking on union minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, senior Communist leader Subhashini Ali said that PM Modi's popularity does not mean that innocent people should get lynched. She added that if ministers continue to make such insensitive statements, how will the incidents of lynchings come to a halt?

Echoing similar sentiments, Dalit leader and Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani said that the lynching of 28 persons in a democratic republic is a mockery of justice. Referring to the lynching of Rakhabar Khan in Alwar, he added, “the height of disgrace is lynching in Alwar has taken place few days after Supreme Court has asked the Modi government to form a law on mob lynchings.”

Meghwal had earlier said that the lynching are being carried out to defame PM Modi. He had said, "As Modi ji becomes more popular, such incidents will take place. When Bihar elections happened, we had award wapsi... When UP elections came, mob lynching happened. Now 2019 elections are about to take place, and again, something will happen. Incidents of intolerance will take place. Because schemes brought by Modiji are making a difference at the ground level, this is a reaction."

The congregation of 35 organisations also appealed for revoking the cases booked on Dalit activists during Bharat Bandh on April 2 this year.
