Low Cash Flow - Unless You're BJP

While the country is facing a very serious catastrophic cash crunch, “cashless” economy feels like a dirty joke.
Demonetisation

Several Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders have been seized with crores of rupees in new currency since demonetisation. The list seems to keep increasing by the day. So far, as many as 30 such independent cases have been caught across the country!

The serpentine queues have claimed lives of more than 90 people so far. Old, young, sick, healthy, men and women have been standing in unending queues, which don’t seem to be getting any smaller. The only change is in the fact that the queues now exist in front of ATMs and banks which are now cashless. With a limit to the amount of cash withdrawal, the lucky few who have managed to get some, have been sharing their meagre income with friends and families.

Demonetisation, once a jargon, is currently the most frequently used term in the parlance of Indian subcontinent. While this word has disturbed the existence of most, there are those who defend it as if their lives depend upon it! If we look into some recent stories since the D- day, 8th November, the leaders of these vehement defenders, show an interesting picture.

While the country is facing a very serious catastrophic cash crunch, and “cashless” economy feels like a dirty joke, the idea of “cash-less” economy does not seem to appeal to these people as well. Let us briefly look at some of the recent cases which have come in the light post demonetisation

No one has any money these days, you say? Think again!

Jitendra Kumar Sahu, a Rajasthan BJP leader was caught, along with his wife, taking a bribe of Rs.1 lakh in old currency notes, the very next day after Demonetisation.

Cash amounting to Rs 3 crore was caught from the car of a BJP leader in Ghaziabad, on 9th November.

A little over a week post demonetisation, Rs. 91.5 lakh rupees was caught in Maharashtra, held by Lok Mangal group, which is controlled by senior BJP leader, Subhash Deshmukh, who is also the Maharashtra cooperation minster.

A brother of an MLA was caught with Rs 6 lakhs in old currency two weeks, post demonetisation in western Maharashtra

Karnataka, has been the centre the maximum black money discovered in new currency, since 8th November. Along with the ‘babus’ involved, several BJP leaders have also been caught in Bengaluru, with a good stock of undisclosed amount in new currency notes.

JVR Arun, BJP’s youth wing secretary from Salem, Tamil Nadu was caught with Rs. 20.5 lakh, on 1st of December. 926 pieces of Rs 2,000 currency, 1530 of Rs 100 and 1000 pieces of Rs 50 currency were found from his bag. Incidentally, though he never needed to, Mr. Arun had posted on his Facebook wall, “For the progress of my country, I am ready to stand in a queue".

Manish Sharma, a BJP leader from West Bengal, caught laundering money, was caught last week with Rs. 33 lakh in new currency.

While the people’s anger is being directed towards the banks for the lack of cash, and “cashless” economy being the new ‘jumla’, the real issue of the futility of demonetisation, is still being dodged, we have such BJP leaders, who are very happy with the effects of demonetisation, obviously, since they exist with such hoards of cash.
