'Aar Koto Kaal': Music and Farmers' Protest

In the previous episode of 'Waqt ki Awaaz', we explored how the ongoing farmers' agitation has declared its demands and resilience through booming, vibrant musical expressions.

Historically too, peasant movements have been the epicentre for the emergence of many an iconic protest songs. While music by stalwarts like Ravishankar, infused with powerful words by Ali Sardar Jafri, marked the fight against the Bengal famine, songs like Aar Koto Kaal [How Many More Years] invoke the indomitable spirit of women who faced violent attacks undeterred.

This episode of 'Waqt ki Awaaz' with Sumangala Damodaran traverses the decades past, and brings together songs from the progressive movement in Bengal in the 1940s, poetry from 1960s' Punjab and more.
