Emergency: Past and Present
Emergency is a dark spot on independent India’s history. On the midnight of June 25, 1975, then president Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed declared emergency on the recommendation of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi under Article 352. The democratic rights of people were suspended and police brutality became rampant. Emergency lasted till March 21, 1977.
