Bihar: Senior BJP Leader Quits on Manipur Issue

Patna: On Thursday, senior BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) leader Binod Sharma resigned from the party on the Manipur issue. Sharma is the first leader to publicly express anger over the lack of action by the party and question the silence of top leadership.
Sharma, the state BJP spokesman after quitting the party in protest over the Manipur issue, sent his resignation to BJP national president JP Nadda and informed people about it through hoardings and posters.
Sharma directly targeted Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and blamed both for Manipur violence. He was referring to the failure to control violence and a horrifying video that surfaced on social media last week about how women were paraded naked and sexually assaulted on roads.
On the hoardings, Sharma categorically announced that he could not work under a leadership that was silent on the Manipur issue.
He made it clear that the Manipur issue made him feel ashamed.
Dozens of posters, banners and hoardings declaring that Sharma resigned from the BJP on the Manipur issue appeared in Patna, including near BJP, RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) and JD-U (Janata Dal-United) headquarters.
Sharma further called out the Modi government on its slogan 'Beti Bachao', highlighting that the government failed to protect the honour, dignity and respect of women in Manipur.
"Modi is not ready to sack or take action against Manipur CM despite the stand of the Chief Justice of India to take action against him. It appears Modi is sleeping on the Manipur issue."
Congress, RJD, and JD-U leaders lauded Sharma for his bold and timely decision.
Sharma resigned from Congress in 2019 for the latter's demand for evidence of an air strike. Indian Air Force (IAF) carried out an air strike in Pakistan's Balakot region on February 22, 2019, following a suicide attack on a Central Reserve Police Force convoy on February 14, which claimed the lives of 40 troopers.
