CartoonClick: Parliament Security Breach -- Democracy ‘Suspended’!
There was an uproar in both the Houses of Parliament on Thursday, December 14, over the issue of lapse in security of Parliament. Opposition MPs demanded a statement from the Home Minister in both Houses as well as a discussion. Since their demand was not heeded, 14 MPs were suspended for “creating a ruckus”. Surprisingly, one of these MPs was noy even present in the House, raising eyebrows over the functioning of Parliament. Later, the government gave a clarification for the “error”.
On Friday, the INDIA bloc MPs protested against the “murder of democracy”, as all that the Opposition wanted was a discussion on the grave security breach in the “Temple of Democracy”.
One wonders that if “sharing passwords” can become a security threat leading to expulsion (Mahua Moitra), how can facilitating visitor passes to the intruders who sprayed smoke in the House not invite even questioning?
Also, the serious, matter should not end with suspending a few Parliament security personnel. There should be deeper probe. That’s what the Opposition is demanding.
