CPI(M) Wins 100 Gram Panchayat Polls in Maharashtra’s Palghar

Delhi: As the 2024 Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha polls approaches, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] has won 100 gram panchayat seats across 13 villages in Maharashtra’s Palghar district.
Further, eight sarpanches from the Left party were elected in Talasari and Dahanu tehsils where the CPI(M) swept the panchayat polls, news agency IANS reported.
CPI(M) central committee member and All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) President Ashok Dhawale told the media that the party performed well in the elections held in 2,359 gram panchayats across Maharashtra on November 5. The election results were announced on Monday.
As per reports, the CPI(M) won in 100 of the total 167 seats it had contested in the two tehsils.
The party sarpanches include four women. The sarpanches will head the gram panchayats in Kavada, Karajgaon, Udhva, Kurze, Uplat (Talasari), Sogve, Modgaon and Kinhavali (Dahanu). These seats are considered the party’s stronghold due to the support from tribals and farmers.
Dhawale told the IANS that majority of the seats were won in Udhva, Uplat, Kurze, Kavada, Karajgaon, Sogve, Kinhavali, and Ambesari.
Notably, the CPI(M)’s legislator in Maharashtraw, Vinod Nikole, was elected from Palghar’s Dahanu Assembly seat in 2019. Even though the party has seen dwindling support in the state currently under the Bharatiya Janata Party’s rule, The Left party has retained the Dahanu constituency nine times from 1978 onwards.
