The committee has decided to uphold Umar's expulsion and has levied a fine of Rs 20,000 on him. It has also upheld a fine of Rs 10,000 on Kanhaiya Kumar and action on other students. 

Umar Khalid throws light on the recent High Level Enquiry Committee notices sent to several JNU students who were accused of organising a protest against the hanging of Afzal Guru and chanting 'anti-national' slogans in February 2016. He points out that the action against the students is part of a larger agenda of the Central government to set a particular narrative for the upcoming elections.  The committee has decided to uphold Umar's expulsion and has levied a fine of Rs 20,000 on him. It has also upheld a fine of Rs 10,000 on Kanhaiya Kumar and action on other students.
