HLEC Notice Part of Larger Attack On Higher Education: Umar Khalid
Umar Khalid throws light on the recent High Level Enquiry Committee notices sent to several JNU students who were accused of organising a protest against the hanging of Afzal Guru and chanting 'anti-national' slogans in February 2016. He points out that the action against the students is part of a larger agenda of the Central government to set a particular narrative for the upcoming elections. The committee has decided to uphold Umar's expulsion and has levied a fine of Rs 20,000 on him. It has also upheld a fine of Rs 10,000 on Kanhaiya Kumar and action on other students.
