JEJAA Launched to Protest Against the Anti-People Policies of the Centre

To protest against the anti-people policies of the Centre government, the Left and democratic mass, class and social organisations across the country have launched a united platform “Jan Ekta Jan Adhikar Andolan (JEJAA)“. Building unity among people, the convention of JEJAA has concluded at Mavlankar hall in New Delhi on Monday.

More than a hundred organisations have gathered under the banner JEJAA which is an endeavour for people’s unity, people’s rights, people’s resistance – Jan Ekta, Jan Adhikar, Jan Pratirodh. Organisations representing farmers, workers, youth and students have united to protest against the government policies and Sangh outfits.

The country is witnessing the tough time in its democratic history. Embracing the neo-liberal economic policies, the government stands alongside with communal and divisive politics. The voices of dissent are being suppressed under this government.

After the demonetisation drama, the government imposed GST and it mainly crashed the small-scale industries in the country which is, directly and indirectly, affecting the labour class. Data shows that the GDP which was 7.9 percent during the April-June quarter of 2016, has dropped to 5.7 percent in the same period.

Giving up control over the prices of petrol and diesel, the government has given the full authority to companies to exploit the people. The escalating prices of petrol and diesel resulted in the rise in the price of essential commodities. Besides the Centre is all set to allow 100 percent Foreign Direct Investment in sectors from agriculture to railways, including defense.

Across the country, the farmers and workers are revolting. The massive protests in Mandsaur and Sikkar show the growing dissatisfaction among them. Both the Centre and respective state governments are trying hard to suppress all these uprisings.

Earlier, on August 28, in a statement issued by the Members of the Organising Committee have said that “the united platform will work towards common cause and will try to bring all possible Left and democratic movements, organisations and individuals willing to fight against the neo-liberal policies and RSS-BJP combine and other forces of authoritarianism and communalism”.

Hannan Mollah, Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member and All India Kisan Sabha general secretary, said that there is fear that has evolved among minorities. So, building “massive public opinion” against the BJP-led Centre, the organisations are fighting for the masses.
