Section 144 Imposed, Barricades Erected at Delhi Borders Ahead of Farmers' March on Feb 13

Delhi Police erected barricades at the Ghazipur border and on Sunday imposed Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code at the Uttar Pradesh borders in anticipation of the farmers' march to Delhi scheduled for February 13. The march, organised by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, aims to address farmers' longstanding demands including the enactment of legislation guaranteeing a minimum support price (MSP) for agricultural produce. With participation expected from over 200 farmers' unions, the event is anticipated to be a significant demonstration.

According to an order by Delhi Police, the gathering of the public at all borders between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh and nearby areas in the jurisdictional area of Northeast district will be prohibited.

Similarly, ANI quoted DCP Sumer Singh Pratap who confirmed the imposition of Section 144 in Panchkula, Haryana as well, ahead of the farmers' march.

Ambala DCP Arshdeep Singh has announced the sealing of the Shambhu border by the Haryana police in preparation for the farmers' march.

According to reports, mobile internet services and bulk SMSes have been suspended in seven Haryana districts to prevent “the spread of misinformation” and maintain public order.

The farmers’ march has been organised as farmer unions argue that the Centre has failed to honour its commitment to legally guarantee MSP, a resolution reached after the 2021 protests on Delhi borders. 

After waiting for two years for the government to act, farmers are now resolved to get their demands met through a protest ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. They are sticking to their action plan even after the first round of talks taking place between farmer union leaders and Union ministers Piyush Goyal, Arjun Munda and Nityanand Rai in Chandigarh on Thursday night.
