Welcome to “Achhe Din” of Modi-fied India
India suffered another one of ‘achhe din’ strokes when the honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji abolished 86% of total currency. The whole country stood in long queues, apart from of course the big bad black wolves (Ambani, Adani, Mallya and the likes). The Demonetisation surgery began without any proper equipments or skills.
As Modi laughed and mocked the suffering of cashless people of India, in Japan, banks and ATMs stood empty and useless.
As more people died in queues, Modiji did excellent drama in front of the media, cried, and then some more. He probably got his degree from National School of Drama and not Delhi University. The deaths were justified by nationalism and a parallel of soldiers standing and dying for the nation were drawn to normalize and legitimize demonetisation crisis.
Apparently, the government was planning the process of currency ban for 10 months. No matter the sign on notes were of a RBI governor who was appointed 8 months later. New 2000 notes were of smaller size than what the ATM machine was equipped for. Thus resulting in low/no cash till all the ATMs over the country were resized.
As more and more people died, the public's money deposited in banks was used by our righteous government to waive off corporate loans of enormous amounts. While industries closed down, lakhs got unemployed, millions starved, the big players went about their lives, feeling triumphed about the situation.
The international media is also unanimous that the Indian government has botched up big time. The social media that had been crucial in fabricating Modi's image is now chipping away at it with viral videos, memes and messages mocking his decision. There are few from within the party who want to tell the leadership that its image is in tatters.
Modi has a record of defying all odds. His events and tamashas dovetail into each other - a new one begins unfolding even before the first one is over. We see the emergence of a new India, literally a Modi-fied one. The road ahead looks anything but smooth; it’s time we buckled up for the rough ride.
