Workers, Artists Come Together to Remember Safdar
Jana Natya Manch (JANAM) was performing a play in the Jhandapur region of Sahibabad (UP) on January 1, 1989. As the play was going on, the group was attacked by political goons, leading to the deaths of two people, JANAM's co-founder Safdar Hashmi and a labourer Rambahadur. From that day onwards, every year, JANAM goes to the same spot to remember Safdar. Workers, Artists, and people from all backgrounds come together to remember Safdar. They perform and sing in his memory. This year's event included artists Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah. At the same time, the Safdar Hashmi Memorial Trust (SAHMAT) also remembered Safdar on the same day. Watch this special NewsClick Report.
